About

Committed to Education

GCT stands for Gifted Creative Talented.  Our program identifies students for GCT services.    As a district we recognize that high ability students have extraordinary academic needs that need to be met.  My goal is to identify those students using universal and supplemental assessments.  Once identified individual student's needs are reviewed, enrichment and intervention options are offered to help that child reach their highest potential.  I recognize that high ability students need to be continually challenged to stay engaged in their education.  These enrichment opportunities include PBL (project based learning), independent studies, clubs, collaboration, and opportunities to act as school leaders.

This year I will be working in classrooms and across buildings to provide rigorous and challenging opportunities to all students in a variety of classrooms through PBL and targeted instruction.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are students identified for GCT?

Each Spring I begin by looking at our District universal screener MAPs to identify students that have 3 consecutive scores at the 95th Percentile or above.  These student are automatically identified.  Students with 2/3 scores at the 95th percentile take part in supplemental testing.

What happens in GCT?

Programming differs depending on the needs of the student and teacher.  In most cases I work with students in the classroom, modifying and extending tier 1 instruction.  Project Based Learning is the focus for most students.  Above grade level skills are identified and projects are build around those standards.  PBL units allow for student voice and choice and authentic real world experiences.

Is identification on going?

Students can be formally identified for GCT in 3rd grade (or end of 2nd).  Once students are identified in 3rd grade they will receive GCT services until the end of 5th grade.  At this point we reassess data to determine if GCT in intermediate school is a good fit.

How can I stay up to date on GCT events?

This site is a great place to stay current on what groups are working on for GCT.  Blogs are regularly posted.  Subscribing to the site allows you to get updates and notifications when new content is added.
