Today at Franklin, Team Odyssey continued to work on creating their home models for their Extreme Weather Architects PBL Unit. These homes were designed by collaborative groups to withstand the affects of an extreme weather event specific to the region they studied. Students included features that would make their home stronger in the event of extreme weather such as blizzards, hurricanes, mudslides, and tornadoes.
At Franklin's School Showcase on February 28th, students will display their models. They will also share their line graphs tracking monthly high and low averages for a city in their region, information about their extreme weather event, and descriptions of their specific home designs.
Throughout this project students have not only strengthened their understanding of weather, engineering, and measurement/data but have also worked on important Habits of Mind. Some of these skills include: innovating, creating, and imagining, interdependent thinking, striving for accuracy, and communicating with clarity and precision.
I look forward to seeing Team Odyssey share their learning and hard work with our school community next Thursday.
