Students from Team Enterprise continued work on their Geometry Gallery pieces. They designed their piece to include including 4 quadrilaterals, 2 triangles, and 1 3-D Shape. Once canvases are complete they will take measurements and complete calculations to find area and perimeter of those figures. Artists will share their work at the Franklin Showcase on May 9th.
Team Odyssey artists are starting to pencil in designs on their canvases. They have been studying their artist of choice and creating biographical pieces about the artists' lives. Students have also viewed numerous pieces of work by their artist for inspiration. Chantelle and Lotus both are using Josef Albers for inspiration. Reid was inspired by the work of Paul Klee. Since many of the 3rd grade pieces are extremely intricate some students are opting to utilize sharpie rather than paint in order to maintain the level of detail desired.
On Tuesday we began our Franklin Chess Tournament. We will be using this competition to determine the 10 finalists that will represent Franklin at the District Chess Tournament that takes place on May 17th. Finalists will compete in 5 rounds and have the opportunity to play in a 64 student bracket that includes elementary students from the entire district! Students utilized the skills and strategies they have been practicing during lunch chess club as well as after school chess club. We will hold the final 2 round of our school tournament next Tuesday to determine our top 10.
Have a great weekend!
