Team Pursuit

In Team Pursuit students continue to work on their opinion and review writing. On Tuesday we introduced the concept of using peer feedback in the critique and revision cycle of writing workshop. We begin by explaining what feedback meant. I introduced the PQP framework. This stands for Praise-Question-Polish and gives students some parameters for offering feedback. Praise highlights what is working in a piece, questions are to clarify information, and polishes are things that could make the work better.

We watched the video, Austin's Butterfly which illustrates how important peer feedback can be in achieving best work. It also highlights the importance of specific and kind suggestions.

After the video students gathered their writing folders and were partnered up to practice the PQP feedback process. One student read their piece aloud while the other listened then offered one praise, one question, and one polish. They then shifted roles. We came together whole group and two students had a chance to share their writing with the whole class and receive additional feedback.

Students did an incredible job and we look forward to building feedback protocols into all parts of the day!

Team Enterprise

On Tuesday Team Enterprise continued their classroom community project to create a T-shirt Design. Last week we discussed the definition of Enterprise and what it meant to us (see previous post). In order to get a better sense of how to translate that to an image or logo, we had a video conference/interview with Mr. Aiello (my husband). He is the Visual Communications director at The Kubala Washatko Architects firm. He has worked in Graphic Design for the last 15 years.

Students generated questions as a class prior to connecting with Mr. Aiello. They asked about fonts, color choice, design habits, what you need to know about a company or group to create their logo, and more.

Once students have had a chance to draft their designs we'll connect with Mr. Aiello again to get his feedback. It was great for students to connect the work they are doing to real world careers and tasks.

Have a great weekend everyone!
