4th and 5th Graders at Franklin are moving into their Geometry Gallery PBL unit. They will be creating a piece of canvas art that includes 2-D and 3-D figures. Students will calculate perimeter, area, and volume. There will be opportunities to learn above grade level content as students advance to calculating the area of quadrilaterals beyond squares and rectangles using formulas.

Students will present their work in a Gallery style presentation at the Franklin all school Showcase on May 9th.

Today to launch this unit we visited the Milwaukee Art Museum and were treated to the Geometry in Art docent tour. The students found inspiration in different pieces and discussed the art in terms of geometry. We looked at figures, attributes, angels, and color. It was a beautiful day to visit the museum. My group wished they'd had a few more hours to explore!
