Genius Hour with Ms. Semrad's Class

I was excited to join Ms. Semrad's class for their weekly Genius Hour this afternoon. Students will have the opportunity each Friday afternoon to explore a topic of interest to them. Today students finished crafting the statements that will guide their project. They used the format How can I__________, so that______________. Once statements were complete students began digging into their topic by researching and taking notes. I saw an immense range of topics including teaching gymnastics, becoming a Navy Seal, helping the elderly, bettering our community, pursuing a career in Computer Science, and so many more fascinating topics. Students will research their topics, have opportunities for feedback and collaboration, and eventually share their learning. I'm so glad I will get to be a part of this exciting endeavor each week.

Next week I will be launching reading projects in Ms. Karides's classs, Ms. Geiss's class, and Miss Deschane's class. I will be starting math enrichment with a group of students in Ms. Patnode and Ms. Deschane's class. We will also be launching a math PBL unit in Ms. Semrad's class next week.
