I love when kids get to choose a book they love. In Ms. Karides's class, readers were given the chance to explore different authors in a vast classroom library. (Admission: one of my favorite places to be is next to a kiddo unsure about what to read). I started "The One and Only Ivan" with one student and his openness to start that book inspired me to come home and start it with my kiddos. I can't wait to touch base with him on Thursday, cause we are LOVING it here at home.
Ms. Geiss's class started book clubs, with some incredible books (BFG, Indian in the Cupboard, and the Great Gilly Hopkins, to name a few)! I got to sit in with the BFG crew. They are reflecting on their reading to determine theme, interaction of story elements, character development, and other observations.
I loved. being part of the "Book Tasting" for Mrs. Semrad's class! Another amazing classroom library that kids were thrilled to explore. Readers snacked on popcorn and pudding while exploring books that "caught" them. The goal was to choose five they were interested in then narrow it down to their top pick. They recorded these on a bookmark. Next time they need a new independent reading book they have a list to reference!
A few of my favorites for our readers are linked below. Most of these titles are in our classrooms or library, just wanted to link for plot synopsis and reading levels. Great read aloud if you're looking for any at home!
From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
