Extreme Weather Home Design Gallery Walk
Students in Ms. Karides's class have started a new PBL Unit, Extreme Weather Designers. They are working in collaborative groups to answer the Driving Question: How can we, as architects, design a home that combats a weather hazard that could affect our chosen region. Their groups have chosen their focus regions and cities, as well as their weather event.
Today students took part in a Gallery Walk where they observed pictures and descriptions of homes designed specifically to combat extreme weather. Ad they circulated they noted what they observed and wondered about each of the structures.
Group Reflection and Brainstorming
After the Gallery Walk groups convened to discuss what they had seen and read. They made connections to their weather event and many were ready to brainstorm how their own model homes may be designed. After group discussions they had the chance to share out ideas if they wished. Some wanted to keep their initial design ideas under wraps (I think we may have a little competitive spirit happening here).
Literary Entrepreneur Website Presentations
Students in Ms. Geiss and Ms. Deschane's classes presented their business websites to respective classes on Thursday. Students were asked to highlight the book they read, focus character, and identified character traits. They then were asked to walk their peers through their website making connections between their business idea and the character traits, motivations, and actions they noted from their text. While students presented, the rest of the class wrote down feedback on post-its so that each presenter received 20+ pieces of warm and/or cool feedback after their presentation.
Career Day
Friday students had the chance to circulate to different classes and hear speakers representing different occupations. There were microbiologists, a steam fitter, a hematologist, and more. Students were able to listen to information about the career then ask questions. It was a great opportunity for students to think about their future.
CESA 1 Regional Spelling Bee
Last Tuesday evening, February 18th, Abby Schweisberger represented Jefferson at our Regional Spelling Bee. She joined 28 of the top Spellers in South Eastern Wisconsin to compete for a spot in the Wisconsin State Bee. While none of our WAWM Finalists will be progressing they all did an incredible job on reaching this point in the competition!

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful weekend everyone!
