This week students in Ms. Geiss's revisited their 50 Things brainstorm posters for ideas. This is part of their Literary Entrepreneurs Project Based Learning Unit. Students were encouraged to build on the business ideas they had written down last week. These are businesses that their characters could create based on traits they've identified from their independent books.

Today most students were ready to choose one business idea to develop. They created business webs. They wrote their business idea in the center then branched out thinking about everything they would need for that business, everything their character would need to think about, and any other ideas. They will eventually use these webs to help them write their business plans.

The week of 11/18 we will be exploring the purpose and process for developing a business plan.

In Ms. Karides's class, students are also exploring entrepreneurship through character traits. This week they participated in the 50 Things Brainstorming protocol. Students worked in small groups to write down as many possible business Ideas that they could come up with. They had 10 minutes to brainstorm. The norms for this activity included: everyone participates, go for quantity, say your ideas as you write, reserve judgement, and have fun.

Once time was up we displayed the posters so that students could participate in a gallery walk to write down business ideas from other posters that could work from their character. Next week they will be able to build on these ideas and began building their business web.
