On Thursday April 25th we held our 3rd Annual 20% Fair. 4th and 5th Grade GCT/Enrichment students from Franklin, Irving, and Jefferson (as well as all other elementary schools in the district) participated. Some students in the program were focusing diligently on completing projects in class and worked to complete those instead.
Students were given the opportunity to conceptualize, design, and facilitate a project that would utilize their strengths and interests to benefit their community. Some students chose to study a topic and share their learning with peers and family, others created inventions, and some used technology to create a new product. There were a wide range of topics and projects reflecting the individuality of each and every student. There was an excited energy that was palpable in the FLW cafetorium as students shared their learning and innovation with audience members, both peers and family members. Each student took pride in their work and it was clear that they were incredibly excited to share with all who attended.
I'm so impressed with the work and self-motivation that I have seen in the past several weeks as students prepared their projects. Thanks to all who were able to attend and to those who were able to volunteer!
I will be sending out a parent survey to get your feedback regarding the event-this will help us plan for next year! Students will also be filling out a survey during their next GCT session so I can get their feedback as well.
