This afternoon at Irving 5th graders were hard at work on their 20% Projects. Charlie is exploring what it would take to colonize Mars. He has completed his research and is creating a model of a rocket to enhance his presentation.

Daniel is extremely interested in architecture. He selected a home design blue print from bhg.com and is working to create a scale model of this home. He is currently using a 1/24 scale factor to determine the dimensions of his model based on the dimensions of the actual home.

Aidan is going to be hosting a Kahoot club on Wednesday afternoons. Students who sign up will participate in math quizzes to hone their skills and take part in a little healthy competition. Aidan will be announcing his club at the community meeting next week and worked today on writing his announcement.

Alex and John continue to work on their Pokemon themed math game. Today John worked on quality control by checking over their problems and answer key. Alex worked on designing the first draft of their game board. Both boys were thrilled to receive the 3-D printed game pieces they requested form our Innovation Coach, Mr. Thompson. The game piece turned out great and Alex and John are already discussing their plans to paint them. They hope to catalog their math game so it can be checked out by students and classrooms from the Irving library.
The 3rd Grade Math students have been acting as Travel Agents, planning a vacation for their client. They have calculated all costs (flight, hotel, food, activities, souvenirs) and then put all of the information into a Google Slides presentation. Today students were able to practice present and receive peer feedback in the form of Praise-Question-Polish. They then had time to revise presentations prior to meeting with their clients next week. Sometime it is challenging for students to hear the "polishes" but we are working on being able to give AND receive constructive feedback. This is a process we will continue to work at.

The 3rd Grade reading is finalizing their set designs as well as their display. They identified the evidence form the texts the read that inspired their set designs. They will be displaying these quotes with their set models.
What a busy and productive afternoon that students had today!
