At Irving 4th and 5th Grade students continued to work through the steps on their 20% Projects. Students have been extremely self motivated and able to self-monitor their progress. This week Henry began to experiment with creating crystals. He has studied the science behind crystals and now is going to work on finding the best system to develop them. This week he created a solution with alum and copper sulfate and also one with just copper sulfate. He will monitor the results and modify where needed next week.
Gianna and Anvesha are continuing to create their board games. Gianna created a math focused game. This week she cut out the laminated cards we had printed and began working on her board. Anvesha is using the Common Core State Standards for Kindergarten to develop targeted grade level questions for her game.
Marissa and Venecia are focusing on researching and developing solutions for helping the environment. This week they continued their research and notes. They are beginning to think about how they can effectively organize all of their information into sub topics.
Mason wants to teach his peers about technology, primarily to bring to their attention the technology is not just electronics but many of the mechanisms we use every day, like door knobs! He is developing a series of lessons (using my lesson plan template) to organize his instruction. He mentioned last week that he wished his 20% project was a 100% project!
The 3rd Grade math group (Lilith, Autumn, Majerle, and Grant) had their scheduled client meetings on Wednesday to present their vacation proposal. They shared with their clients (Lilith and Autumn will do this next week) the Google Slide presentation that they created. Their slideshows included cost of flight, hotel, average meal cost, activities, souvenirs, and grand totals. Their clients gave them feedback that they will review and make modifications where needed. Next week we will launch our new project focusing on Art and Geometry!
