3rd Graders at Irving continued their Art and Geometry Unit. Grant and Majerle decided to begin their inspired art piece sketches. They had both been studying Piet Mondrian's life and work. They will take his art and create their own take on his style. Seraphina decided to use her work time to continue researching Victor Vasarely. She is taking notes on where he lived, family, education, award and accomplishments, and artistic style. Next week she will likely start sketching ideas for her inspired work.

Our 3rd Grade Book club continued into Chapter 3 of The Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. We discussed why the author chose to start the novel with a mysterious letter. We also talked about the main character, Claudia's motivation for running away to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We are practicing using evidence from the text to support thinking. Lastly we centered our discussion around why Claudia chose the Met for her new home. This is a challenging book with lots of great vocabulary. The students are reading Chapter 4 this week to fuel our discussion next week.

4th and 5th Graders worked on completing their displays for Thursday's 20% Fair. See separate post for those photos!

Have a great weekend!
