This week 4th and 5th Graders continued building their simple machine models using Vex Kids. They started our sessions by reviewing the research they had previously done on 6 simple machines. They reviewed by playing an interactive quiz game.

Some groups had already began their builds while others were excited to open a brand new kit today. The first machine students were asked to build is an inclined plain. Once complete they recorded their work by taking a picture as well as a video of the machine in action. Students have access to virtual instructions where they can manipulate the step pictures on their iPads to see the pieces from all angles.

Students will be building models of all six simple machines in the coming weeks. Their goal is to determine which combination of tools will allow them to complete the Tiger Rescue mission that was introduced before break. They will need to innovate and combine simple machines to create the best solution.

Here is an example of how the interactive instructions work (on my laptop). It is essentially the same on student iPads but they use the touch screen to manipulate the images.

Next Friday is Irving's School Spelling Bee! I'm looking forward to seeing all of our finalists

give it their all up on that stage!

Have a great weekend everyone and stay safe!
