On Wednesday I was able to join Mr. Thompson as he and Ms. Olson's class tested out the strength of their brick, stick, and straw home designs. Students have been working during their innovation station sessions to design and build homes that could withstand a powerful force. They could use foam, popsicle sticks, and toothpicks to represent bricks, wood, and straw.

Throughout this project they have engaged in the Engineering Design Process-Asking, Exploring, Modeling, Evaluating, and Explaining. Today they evaluated their designs. Mr. Thompson used a wolf puppet-clad leaf blower to test the strength of each home. For each test we had a student videographer. When the testing was complete students watched the videos as a group. Each collaborative group then reflected and shared with the group (Explain step). They considered want well and what worked in their design. They also identified changes they would make were they to do this again.
